SFBJ Structures Awards Best Retail Project: 16000 Pines Market

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – On Thursday, September 21st, the South Florida Business Journal (SFBJ) along with other finalists, gathered at Gulfstream Park to commemorate and reveal the winners of the 2023 Structures Awards. ANF Group’s 16000 Pines Market was successful in securing the win for Best Retail Project!

Over the last decade, west Pembroke Pines has seen a dramatic increase in residential development, particularly single-family homes. Commercial and retail development has not materialized as rapidly, leaving residents with limited options for everyday needs. This project sought to bring convenience and amenities to the area. 16000 Pines Market is a 135,000-square-foot mixed-use development at the corner of Pines Boulevard and Dykes Road – previously home to an underused U.S. Postal Service distribution center that had been decommissioned several years ago. The project was constructed over two phases and includes a mix of retail, commercial and office space, plus 629 parking spaces.

The construction employed block and concrete beams with stucco finishes, exterior steel canopies and LED lighting throughout. ANF Group constructed select retail and commercial projects within the development, including the plaza’s shell and buildout of grocer Publix and big-box retailer Burlington. Other tenants include Crunch Fitness, Tropical Smoothie Café, Everglades Family Dental and a U.S. Postal Service branch.

University Station was also honored with a 2023 Structures Award for Best Speculative Project. Submitted for award by developers Housing Trust Group, University Station is a high-quality mixed-use development in the city’s historic downtown consisting of three buildings, including two residential towers and a standalone parking garage with 635 spaces, of which 365 spaces will serve the rail station. The development will offer 216 one- and two-bedroom apartments, more than 2,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, and 12,210 square feet for the new home for Barry University’s College of Nursing and Health Services. All the apartments will be reserved for individuals and families with incomes ranging from 22% to 80% of the area median income. ANF Group serves as the general contractor for University Station and completion is expected in Spring 2025.
